Agonist

An agonist is a drug which binds to a receptor and activates it. Agonists of the estrogen receptor like estradiol, agonists of the progesterone receptor like progesterone, and agonists of the androgen receptor like testosterone are used as estrogens, progestogens, and androgens/anabolic steroids, respectively.
