AMAB, MAAB
Acronyms for "assigned male at birth" and "male-assigned at birth", this is used to refer to the sex assigned at birth while expressing that it is separate from gender identity.
AFAB, FAAB
Acronyms for "assigned female at birth" and "female-assigned at birth", this is used to refer to the sex assigned at birth while expressing that it is separate from gender identity.
HRT
Acronym for "hormone replacement therapy", referring to medication used to rectify hormone levels, often used as part of a treatment plan to facilitate medical transition.
GCS
Acronym for "gender confirming surgery", referring to the array of potential gender transition related surgeries used to help the patient feel more at home in their body.
GRS
Acronym that can interchangeably mean "genital reconstruction surgery" or "gender reassignment surgery" or various combinations of the two. Use is gradually shifting to the former due to it being more descriptive and accurate, as many people feel they already are the gender they identify as prior to or without such surgeries. The latter originated from laws mandating that an individual have genital reconstruction surgery prior to being allowed to change their legal gender marker.
SRS
Acronym for "sex reassignment surgery" refers to genital reconstruction surgery. This form is becoming gradually outdated as it originated from laws mandating that an individual have genital reconstruction surgery prior to being allowed to change their legal gender marker (more archaically known as a sex marker).
MTF
Acronym for "male to female", used to refer to people who were AMAB and transition into expressing their female gender identity.
MTX
Acronym for "male to ______", sometimes used to refer to people who were AMAB and transition into expressing a non-binary gender identity.
FTM
Acronym for "female to male", used to refer to people who were AFAB and transition into expressing their male gender identity.
FTX
Acronym for "Female to ____", sometimes used to refer to people who were AFAB and transition into expressing a non-binary gender identity.
Transfeminine
Term used as a general heading for trans people who are feminine in some way without explicitly assigning a gender, often used in the context of enbies who identify as feminine in some way but not exactly female. Although it is not limited to such uses and could potentially be used by other people like binary trans women or trans men who identify as feminine in some way.
Transmasculine
Term used as a general heading for trans people who are masculine in some way without explicitly assigning a gender, often used in the context of enbies who identify as masculine in some way but not exactly male. Although it is not limited to such uses and could potentially be used by other people like binary trans women or trans men who identify as masculine in some way.
Non-binary
Term for people or a person who identifies with a gender identity that does not fit cleanly into the "binary" system of male and female.
NB
Shorthand for Non-binary.
Enby
Word created from the phonetic pronunciation of NB used in place of gendered nouns like "woman" or "man". Also interchangeably used in place of gendered adjectives like "womanly" or "manly".
